Byrnewood in Hagforest

A village built in the middle of the Hagforest with a peculiar history, the people of Byrnewood tend to be hardy folk who are good with their hands. Many renowned carpenters, architects, and masons originate from Byrnewood.

Territory

The climate of this region is fair overall. The winters can cover the region in snow and frost while the summers can make irrigation necessary. Hagforest is a collection of massive forests that span conifer and deciduous trees alike. The forests are full of life, featuring massive amounts of mushrooms and wildlife. There are a great many villages in the Hagforest.

Society

The largest village, Byrnewood, has seen a steady increase of people moving there from Sovereign and other regions of the continent since the dawn of the Commonwealth. There are many other villages, some deeper into the forests and some closer to the capital. All of them have a mayor and whenever necessary, the village mayors will meet with the mayor of Byrnewood, Kindle of Byrnewood, who also holds a place in the Commonwealths Senate.

Culture

People from the Hagforest are exceptional people. The people from Byrnewood are renown architects using more than just logs and planks but stone and clay as well. While most people from the smaller villages still forage and survive by being hunter & gatherer, the people from the bigger villages, including Byrnewood, know how to farm the lands. Byrnewood is known around the Commonwealth for their dedication in preserving nature and its wildlife while also using its natural resources.

People

The Hagforest is home to a kind people. They are optimistic, brave, and hospitable people, but don’t mistake their kindness for weakness. Since they don’t like to hold grudges, they will make sure to voice their irritation immediately.

History

The history of the People of the Hagforest is a very misleading one. One summer, some families went missing in the woods. All their belongings were gone. The villagers suspected evil witches must’ve taken them, so they started chopping down trees to find the witches. No witches were found but a formidable technique for chopping wood developed. The villagers started building watchtowers higher and higher to spot the witches in the forest. No witches were found but a physics defying eye for architecture developed. Now they started burning down the forest! No witches were found but charcoal was discovered. They started digging up the burned land – the witches had to be somewhere! No witches were found but this land was fruitful, so they started farming it. The villagers never found the families. They probably just moved away. They never found any witches either, but they found a purpose instead.
